You will attract the right followers if your writing has messages that will truly provoke a positive change. This should be your priority before sales or social connections.
It will be nice to have the right followers to read your writing. It is encouraging. Having people to cheer you up will make you write more but that must not be the reason why you are writing. This is because you may be discouraged on the day you do not get a cheer or applause.
Your followers are the people who follow your writing for various reasons. Your writing will meet their point of needs for various reasons too, this means that people will follow you, like you or your writing, or make comments based on how your writing has made an impact in their lives.
Your followers may also like or make comments based on their way of thinking and their personal life experiences. So, be mindful, you may not get the likes as you begin in your journey of writing, you may not also get comments at the start and if you do, not every comment will put a smile on your face.
Your audience will grow and with time you will attract the right followers.
In the past, I have always relied on people to like, comment, or just encourage me. I now understand that like-minded people who do write or do similar to what I do are busy growing. They may know that the writing is edifying and will make a positive impact but they may be too busy to like or comment.
Your writing should be for those who really need it, those who want to write like you but do not know how to, or those who will generally benefit from the messages you share.
Also, people may lack knowledge of the topic that you share, so, they may not want to contribute. It could also be that they are shy or feel intimidated.
You must not give up. The right audience will show up and follow.
When I first started singing other people’s Christian songs, just for the love of worship to God. It looked crazy, but in my desire to worship, the Lord opened doors of opportunities in the music sector and now I have my music brand name as a record label. I have written and composed now 30 Christian songs in different genres and most importantly I have an audience that follows my music because they have been blessed by it.
To be honest, there were times when I felt like people were jealous of me and my writing for various reasons which may be true. I have grown out of this, and you should learn to do so too. It will be your responsibility to take care of your writing space, I mean your inner space, that is: what you think about, how you process information, and how you respond to them.
For example, your mind may tell you that, it is not the best time to start writing, or, no one will read it, or, you have no experience or no one will ever buy your book. These are all negative thoughts and they are all lies.
What has strengthened me in this area is the word of God. You can use it too by meditating on it. The Bible makes it clear that the mind is the most deceitful part of our bodies and we must not rely on it. This is because our mind gets a lot of information from various sources and we must check and process the information the right way if we must write meaningfully. The right way to check is to check with the word of God which is the truth.
The human mind is the most deceitful of all things. It is incurable.
No one can understand how deceitful it is.
Jeremiah 17:9 GW
This is why we have to process what comes in and out of our minds correctly
My comments for my music platform are not turned on but I know that I have followers.
More than anything you guard, protect your mind, for life flows from it. Have nothing to do with a corrupt mouth; keep devious lips far from you. Focus your eyes straight ahead; keep your gaze on what is in front of you. Watch your feet on the way, and all your paths will be secure. Don’t deviate a bit to the right or the left; turn your feet away from evil.
Proverbs 4:23-27 CEB
My story
One day, I was at the supermarket with my husband, we were at a fruit and vegetable shop. Then I saw a man smiling pleasantly at me and I wondered where I knew him from, then I said hello and asked if we had ever met and he said happily that he knew me, he even described me with my music and how he follows me on my social media. I was happy and I thanked him.
This means that you need not to worry about the likes, the cheers, and the comments. What matters most is how your messages will truly provoke a positive change.
